There are many ways to get into LaSalle Canyon to see the icefalls. Early this afternoon, three of us met in a lot by Council Overhang and took a very long indirect path that included exploring two caves, a dozen frozen creek crossings, climbing endless stairs, and scrambling up and down the hills of the Canyon Ridge Trail. There was talking, and there was quiet. We took turns leading the way. It was hard to walk so many miles in the heavy snow. Our adventure became a Quest.

The difficulty of the Quest directly correlates to the richness of the treasure, I think. This treasure is rich indeed. The color of the ice glows in my memory. It was impossible to capture the magic in an image, but the photos hint at the beauty of stepping behind the frozen falls to see the wall of ice utterly glowing. We took pictures of our silhouettes against the ice wall for scale, or maybe it was to be part of something wondrous.

According to my phone, we hiked 7.8 miles. IN THE SNOW. I know 7.8 was the perfect number of miles because I thought about crying at the end. LOL. Thank you, Bob & Cindy. It was a blast.

Then I saw an eagle on the way home.
